Update on Canada's covid vaccination campaign
Vaccination clinics are not busy. Updated April 4, 2023 at end of post
Canada currently releases its covid vaccination statistics on a monthly basis. The last update was October 9th. As of that date:
OVERALL SECOND BOOSTER UPTAKE RATES, CANADA
A few observations: during the five months that second boosters have been rolled out in Canada, the highest uptake - among seniors aged 70 and up - hovers around fifty percent.
In other words, seniors are as likely to have gotten a second booster as not.
Half of seniors have not gotten a second booster.
I have circled a data anomaly in the oldest two age groups, which suggests that an error was made in the uppermost age groups for at least three months, and which was corrected in October.
PEDIATRIC COVID VACCINE UPTAKE
Looking at pediatric covid vaccine uptake, the majority of teens have received a single dose, approximately half of elementary school children, and about one in sixteen infants and toddlers. This is after 3 months of availability, plus the return to school.
For some reason, parents of infants and toddlers in Canada are 90% unenthusiastic about covid vaccines.
A few data anomalies are highlighted - there should never be dips in a cumulative graph.
TODDLER VACCINE UPTAKE ACROSS THE COUNTRY
The title of “Least Enthused to Administer Covid Vaccine to a Toddler” belongs to Nunuvut this month, which trails the pack at an impressive 1.8% of toddlers who have received a covid vaccine:
In fairness, it is a very uncompetitive field, with the highest rate of toddler vaccination belonging to British Columbia, still only 9.9% of toddlers.
It may be time to redeploy some human resources and expenses away from covid vaccine clinics.
UPDATE APRIL 4, 2023: 19% of Canadians remain involved with covid vaccination as of March 26, 2023. 9.6% of toddlers are covid vaccine recipients, 4.7% of toddlers in Nunuvut.
I’m glad my 80+ parents stopped at 3 - “I’m no one’s guinepig” were the exact words 😊
This is good news. Your concluding sentence is sound advice.
