In previous posts I have noted the steep decline in vaccination in Canada and most other Western nations since winter 2021/2022. However, according to Our World in Data, during the month of July 2022, 1.25 million covid vaccines were administered in Canada. Presumably to 1.25 million Canadians.
Of these 1.25 million covid vaccines, 1.11 million were boosters.
Which means 0.14 million covid vaccines - 140 thousand vaccines - were given in July which were not boosters.
Presumably this primarily reflects doses given to children.
I will glean from this that the pediatric rollout of Pfizer BioNTech Acuitas vaccines in Canada is not going particularly well.
Note on method: In order to obtain these figures, I used cumulative vaccination graph and obtained the July 1, 2022 and August 1, 2022 figures by hovering over the data line:
(If anyone knows of a full set of covid vaccination data from the Canadian government, I would be much obliged. )
The next question: which Canadians are still getting boosted in July 2022? Which Canadians are no longer getting boosted?
We know that the second booster dose of covid vaccinations was rolled out in July 2022. I am not aware of which workplaces mandate these, or which subpopulations have a high rate of covid vaccination uptake at this point.
Although I will hypothesize that health care workers would represent a high proportion of second booster recipients, along with nursing home workers and residents.
I welcome any tips on better data. Working off OWID leaves some desired data yet missing, i.e. child vaccination.
Are the boosters third, fourth, or fifth shots? When the number of people who have had 4+ is greater than the number who have had only 3, then we know how many Canadians will push back against more shots and mandates - the people with 2 or fewer.
The rollout in 2021 was slow and disjointed in Canada (months, instead of weeks between 1st and 2nd shot - perhaps saving lives). My birth-mom had her 2nd shot July 2021. Had her booster in Dec. and her booster-booster in May. Four shots in 12-14 months doesn't seem to compute with people as not as advertised. And she is not a stupid woman. I don't get it.
