Hi J-M. There’s been some discussion of late that Covid vaccines wiped out the flu or that the mandates did or both. I recall reading some MDs on Twitter that Covid was the bully on the influenza block or something to that effect. Were you one of those voices? Your thoughts would be helpful. It was an x post or repost by Don W. noted in this ss article.
I haven't seen this question definitively settled. Another popular notion is that flu testing stopped in 2020- the number of cases of covid seemed to match the number of cases of flu for a given winter - so the hypothesis is that flu cases were essentially renamed as covid. I don't know about the "elbowing out" hypothesis - it's talked about in terms of microbiome shift in the gut, but I haven't seen it described in other parts of the body, and haven't seen it described with viruses.
